October Events in Florida Panhandle

rvconnections_octevents

The Florida Panhandle is busy in October, so fire up your RV and plan on attending some of these great events this month.

Pirates of the High Seas Fest – October 7-9 in Panama City Beach

Set sail for the long Columbus Day weekend by celebrating a different kind of marauding sea adventurers oh, yes, ahoy mates! With three days of fun lined up, families will be busy as they seek for treasure on a scavenger hunt, prepare for pirate invasions, take photos during the kids parade and ooh and ahh during the fireworks show.

Alligator Warrior Festival – Oct 14-16 in Lake City

Fun fact: Lake City was known as Alligator, Fla., in the early 1800s and its most famous resident was the Seminole commander, Alligator Warrior. In addition to celebrating the Native American people who made Florida their original home, this annual fest includes a reenactment of the 1836 battle of San Felasco Hammock, plus music, dancing, living-history camps, traders, craftsmen and food vendors.

Bellamy Bridge Ghost Walks – Oct 28-29 at Bellamy Bridge Heritage Trail

The restless spirit of Elizabeth Jane Croom Bellamy, who died in 1837, which accounts for numerous eyewitness tales of strange manifestations near the site of the Bellamy Bridge and proximity to Halloween, make late October’s annual Ghost Walks a spooky slam dunk. There are also the legends about a murdered moonshine runner and a headless driver that keep the spiritual lore alive. Reservations for the walks should be available starting in late September.

DIY RV Hacks You Need to Know

RVConnections_DIY-RV-Hacks

Living the RV lifestyle isn’t always easy. You’re forced to give up some of the luxuries you enjoy at home for a compact home on wheels. Although, you don’t have to have a massive Class A motorhome to enjoy your life on the road. These simple RV hacks will help ensure you and your fellow travelers are all happy campers.

1. Use a Towel Rod to Hold Bathroom Products in Place

Putting all of your bathroom products away before you hit the road can be difficult to remember, and those products can also crowd your small storage spaces. Screw a towel rod to the wall and place your products between the bar and the wall. They’ll stay organized and in place when you’re cruising down the road.

2. Use a Shoe Organizer for More Storage

Shoe organizers can hang from doors, walls, and they can even be cut to hang in compact places. They’re a perfect way to ensure your clothing, cleaning products and other supplies stay organized on the road without taking up your precious storage spaces.

3. Use Glow-in-the-Dark Tape on Your Entry Steps

Entry steps can be dangerous in the dark, but entry lights can be difficult and expensive to install. Place glow-in-the-dark tape on your steps, so you and your guests can easily avoid injury.

4. Save Free Condiments

When you’re living in a brick-and-mortar-home, you probably throw free condiments away. When you’re on the road in your RV, those extra ketchup, mustard and soy sauce packets can come in handy. They take up much less space than full-size bottles and are especially handy if your RV refrigerator is small.

5. Shop for RV Supplies at RV Connections

Our RV Connections online parts store is the perfect place to pick up all of the RV supplies you need to enjoy your RV lifestyle. Drop by RV Connections today for RV sales, service, parts, and accessories.

Buying an RV

RVConnections_BuyingRV

In just a couple short months, it will be time to start thinking about going RVing for those who don’t like winter camping. This year, you may want to buy a brand new RV or trade in your used RV. Before you buy an RV or trade yours in, decide what type of RV you want. You can visit RV Connections Super Center to get some ideas, but there are several things to take into consideration.

Length/Towing Capacity

Before you buy a travel trailer or fifth wheel, you have to determine the towing capacity of your truck. You are limited by this, unless you buy a bigger truck. Check the towing capacity in the owner’s manual. Don’t forget, you need to figure the gross weight of the RV plus extra weight for the stuff inside and full holding tanks.

Number of People

Next, determine the most use for the RV. If you are taking only your family, then you need an RV that will sleep the number of people in your family. If you plan on going hunting or fishing with friends, take into consideration the number of people that will travel with you.

Use

If you have “toys” you like to bring with you, such as snowmobiles, motorcycles and ATVs, you may want to consider getting a toy hauler. These are great if you want to bring a slew of friends with you, as the garage part usually has extra bunks.

Length of Trips

If you plan on taking longer trips, especially trips where you may not be hooking up to utilities, you may want to consider an RV with larger holding tanks. Typically, these sleep more people and require a heavy-duty truck.

Retiring?

If you plan on retiring in the RV and traveling the country, you definitely need something that you can live in for an extended time. You may want something that sleeps six for two people so you won’t feel so cramped after being in the RV for a couple of months.

Visit RV Connections

If you are not sure what would be best for your situation, stop by RV Connections in Panama City and discuss your needs with us. We can help determine whether you need a bigger truck for what you want or need, or help you choose an RV that not only fits your needs, but something your truck can tow.

August Events You Don’t Want to Miss in Panama City!

RVConnections_AugustEvents

Summer is the best time to be in Panama City, and August is the perfect time to take advantage before the season comes to a close. The city and its beaches are still booming with must-visit outdoor events, and the following are just a few you don’t want to miss this month.

Back to School Beach Bash

You don’t have to dread the back-to-school season when you’re at Panama City Beach. The Back to School Beach Bash will take place on Aug. 6, at Pier Park. The celebration will take place from 2 p.m., to 5 p.m., and will include crafts for the kids, food sampling from the park’s numerous tenants, a fashion show (featuring back to school fashion) and tons of other family-friendly events. There’s no more exciting way to handle the stresses of the back-to-school season.

St. Andrews Waterfront Farmers’ Market

Reserve your Saturdays throughout August for the St. Andrews Waterfront Farmers’ Market at Smith Yacht Basin. The market takes place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and features locally made and farmed items from vegetables to hand-made soaps and countless other crafts. There’s no better way to explore the city’s waterfront area and historic St. Andrews before the busy summer season comes to a close.

Summer Concert Series

The summer concert series comes to a close on Aug. 11, and the final events are always some of the best. The free concerts at Aaron Bessant Park will take place on Aug. 4, and Aug. 11, and begin at 7 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs and picnics to enjoy the summer music. The Dead 27’s, known locally for their coastal rock music, will play on Aug. 4, and the southern rock band Georgia Clay will close out the series on Aug. 11.

Stay Safe This Summer With These Health and Safety Tips

RVConnections_StaySafe

Summer is a time for outdoor adventures, road trips and beach days, but all of that hot weather, those pesky outdoor bugs and the strong summer sun can put a damper on your fun. Keep yourself and your family safe and healthy this summer by following these simple summer safety tips.

Prevent Heat Illness

Many parts of the country get unbearably hot throughout the summer; it’s important to know how to recognize the signs of heat illness and how to prevent heat illness entirely. Always stay cool and hydrated, listen to your body and never leave anyone (including pets) inside closed, parked vehicles.

Grill Safely

A big part of the RV lifestyle is grilling food with friends on those long summer days. It’s important to keep food safety in mind whenever you’re grilling, which includes keeping food and drinks in separate coolers, washing your hands with hot water and soap after touching raw foods and always using clean cooking and serving utensils.

Protect Your Skin

Always protect your skin and eyes from the sun with UVA/UVB protective clothing, sunglasses and hats. And plan your outdoor activities before 11 a.m. and after 4 p.m. whenever possible, because the sun’s rays are weakest at such times. If you must be outside during those hours, be sure to stay hydrated and cover your body with loose-fitting cotton clothing.

Keep Bugs at Bay

Days spent at the campground are often followed by pesky bugs biting at night. Always use bug sprays that contain DEET, because they keep mosquitos, ticks and a variety of other harmful, disease-carrying insects away.

Swim and Play Safely

Playing in lakes, rivers and the ocean are some of the best times summer has to offer, but it’s important to use caution whenever you our your family members are swimming. Choose pools, beaches and lakes that have lifeguards on duty whenever possible.

Keep Your RV Safe Too

Before you hit the road for all of your summer adventures, bring your RV by RV Connections. Our certified RV technicians are here to handle all of you RV service and repair needs, so you can have the best summer possible.
